Gr-8 season?

After a horrible start to the season, Everton recovered and only lost once to Spurs in 2010. That too was an unfortunate defeat after we overwhelmed Spurs at WHite Hart Lane in the 2nd half, and should have (not only) drew the match, but go ahead and win that.

We only lost 9 games this season, and won 16. But we drew too many times, and in many drawn games, we should have drawn. I can point to the 2 games against Birmingham both at Goodison and St Andrews; both ended in a draw, but we should have won both, particularly the one at St Andrews.

The games against Villa and Arsenal away; both games we conceded late goals. We should have won both.

If we can have the nucleus of the team fit, we stand a chance to go to the top. Except for the Left-Back position, we have quality back-up for all other positions.

We suffered badly when Arteta and Pieneer were both out. No creativity at that time. Even Osman was out at one time. But all 3 can be our playmakers, though Osman would be a little weaker than the two other.

At right back we have Neville and Hibbert. Central defence, I hope we sign Sanderos on free transfer to support, Heitinga, Jagielka, Yobo & Distin. We would have a formidable Central Defensive lineup.

In midfield, I still say we need another creative player. Perhaps we can look at Jermaine Jenas who can support Arteta. We should also have another supportive defensive midfielder, maybe we can look at Obi-Mikel, or even Diarra who is now surplus at Real Madrid.

Upfront, we should find play Anichebe more. I was initially against him as he was rather petulant last season, but this season, since he returned from injury, he has looked powerful and purposeful. But we should find another reliable striker. Saha is not getting younger and Yakubu is not as fast as before.

But somehow, knowing Moyes, I think he will wait wait and wait before he may some buys late on in the summer. Till then, we look forward to the World Cup at S.Africa.
